The maintenance guide: pamper all your leathers

Leather shoes are much more than just a fashion accessory. They represent an investment, a guarantee of quality and durability. However, to maintain their elegance and longevity, regular and proper care is essential.

Understanding the different types of leather

Smooth leathers

Smooth leather is the most common and easiest to maintain. Used
Often used for dress shoes, it is distinguished by its shiny and even surface. This type of leather is quite durable, but it still requires regular attention to prevent cracking and maintain its shine.

Nubuck leather

Nubuck is a fine-grained, sanded leather, giving it a soft, velvety texture. It is more delicate than smooth leather and requires special care to prevent stains and wear. Nubuck is often used for more casual shoes or boots, where its luxurious appearance is particularly appreciated.

The basics of maintenance

Leather shoes require special care. Whether your shoes are made of smooth leather or nubuck leather , each of these materials requires special attention.

To maintain your different leathers, you will need to use different products such as:

You can find all the maintenance essentials on our “ Maintenance ” page.

There are several steps for optimal maintenance of your leathers:

Cleaning

First, dust your shoes with a clean, dry cloth. A soft microfiber cloth is ideal, as it gently cleans the leather surface without damaging it.

For smooth leathers , use a damp cloth to remove surface dirt. Avoid harsh products that could damage the leather.

For nubuck leathers , use a brush to remove dirt. For stains, use a cleaning foam. Specially designed for nubuck is ideal. Always brush gently to avoid damaging the texture of the leather.

Applying shoe polish

For smooth leathers, take a generous amount of shoe polish . Apply it in small, even circles all over the shoe, including the edge of the sole for an even finish. It is recommended to choose a cream slightly lighter than the color of your shoes.

For nubuck leathers, use a multi-material treatment , which nourishes, revives and protects your leather. After applying this treatment, you can brush your shoe again.

Protection

Finally, protect your shoes with a waterproofing spray . This step is crucial for creating a barrier against moisture and stains. Apply the spray evenly over the entire surface of the shoe, being careful not to get it too close to avoid marks. This step should be performed on all types of leather.
