How to maintain patent leather?

Patent leather, with its incomparable shine and smooth appearance, is a popular material for shoes, bags, and accessories. However, its care differs from that of traditional leather and requires specific care to maintain its impeccable appearance. Here are our tips for caring for your patent leather pieces.

1. Clean gently

Patent leather easily attracts dust and smudges, but it's also very sensitive to abrasive products. To clean it, use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with warm water. Gently wipe the surface to remove dirt. For more stubborn stains, a specific patent leather cleaner can be used.

2. Moisturize to prevent cracking

Although patent leather is covered with a protective layer, it can dry out over time and develop cracks. Apply a special patent leather moisturizer or a colorless cream to restore its suppleness. Massage lightly with a soft cloth to allow the product to penetrate.

3. Protect against scratches

Patent leather is fragile and can scratch easily. Avoid rubbing it with rough surfaces or sharp objects. For storage, wrap your patent leather items in a protective fabric cover to prevent friction.

Additional tips

  • If your patent leather shoes have creases, use shoe trees to maintain their shape.
  • Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight or heat sources which could dull or alter the varnish.

By following these tips, your patent leather pieces will maintain their chic and elegant look over time. With a little care, they will remain essential accessories in your wardrobe.
